Carpet Seams Do It Yourself

With white chalk make a line about 3 4 the width of the overlap or about 1 3 4 inches from the edge of the carpet and then cut along the line. The seam tape should have a center stripe or reference to keep it centered. Set the iron on 300º 350º depending on the carpet the carpet backing and the seam tape. Apply seam adhesive to only one edge of the carpet.

Seal the unruly carpet edges with a seam sealer. Leave the weights in place until the adhesive sets. In this video i share an easy strategy to cut and seam carpet. As you move down the seam with the iron roll over the joined seam behind the iron using a seam roller to press the carpet edges into the tape adhesive and ensure they lie flat.

Overlap two pieces of carpet at the seam by about two inches. Place the seam tape under the exposed edges. Complete the seam by butting both sections of the carpet together while the adhesive is still wet allowing the carpet and cushion to make contact with the tape and seam sealer at the same time. Try using a clothes iron and you might as well shoot yourself in the foot.
